Beta 1 for the long term support(LTS) version of Ubuntu 12.04 is released and this time with quite impressive and nice improvements. Unity is getting mature over time and Ubuntu is which of course most of its users love it. We already have Ubuntu font for some time, and to be honest i really like it. But i do not like its rendering in openSUSE system with KDE, so i haven’t used it that much. I did not see any native font for KDE which can be used by default by the operating system. But now we have KDE font called Oxygen font, it’s still in early stages at the time of writing this post. I am using it for last few days and i can say that it is clean and clear font i used ever.
It can be download from KDE projects site and also can be cloned from the repository if any one want that.

In openSUSE KDE, it’s easy to install it via Font Installer from Personal Settings either system wide or per user only.

If you want to install it in Ubuntu, here are the easy steps. Open terminal and type(will install it system wide):
gksudo nautilus
Now go to this directory, /usr/share/fonts/truetype and create a folder named ‘oxygen‘ without quotes, and paste fonts here from the downloaded directory. Close this window and now type in terminal:
sudo fc-cache -vf
I haven’t tested it in Ubuntu, try it and share your experience with others.
Ubuntu has announced the latest release of its family OS and this time things are little different than before, we have Ubuntu with new desktop called Unity. I have tested the beta version and it was awesome. I am downloading it ATM and will try it out. So don’t miss it and download it now OR upgrade from your previous version. Upgrade process can be done via update manager(very simple). After upgrading you have the choice to use the new desktop or switch to old(gnome or other) desktop from the login screen. Choice is yours.

Ubuntu 11.04 is around the corner and we will see some changes this time from Canonical. Unity desktop is introduced in this version, the rest of other stuff like applications will get some changes also, like LibreOffice instead of OpenOffice etc… I am not going to deep that why Unity, how it will represent the Gnome user base, but would like to share these screenies from zdnet.
