I was very eager to try it. I very much liked 11.0, and that is how I learned Linux on my own. I was not happy when it did not allow me to choose optional software and settings during installation. I installed it in VMware using NAT and it could not connect to the Internet. So, since one does not use drivers for NAT, I have to wonder how in the world that can be fixed. Navigating through the panels you cannot see everything all to well. It is not even pretty to look at. I am not happy, and I guess from here it is only going to be CentOS.

Hi Doug,
I would suggest you to refer to openSUSE forums, which is the best place to get your answers. I haven’t tested it in virtual environment, sorry can’t say much about NAT.

I actually just popped in the 11.0 DVD, made an ISO, and fired up VMware and just moved all my files back into that version. I am funny about new operating systems. I still am using Windows XP, and won’t ever bother with Windows 7 unless it happens to come installed on a computer I am buying. Eventually, I may install OpenSUSE as the main operating system and run Windows in VMware, instead of the other way around. Would rather not have to even touch Windows, but that is impossible as a technical student and professional.

In this case, how about dual booting. I myself is a professional and student, but most of the time trying to accomplish my tasks in Linux. Currently i have dual booting (win7 and openSUSE 11.2). Last time if i remember correctly i used win 7 for SPSS and never boot to it more. I personally prefer to do dual booting than using virtual environment. If you need help in dual booting, i can help in that.

I used to have dual boot, but I do web development in both ASP.NET and Perl and was constantly going back and forth from Windows to Linux or Linux to Windows. Later got a little smarter and I had ActiveState Perl on Windows and was doing .NET in Mono for a while, but finally just got tired of restarting the computer all day to test my pages in IIS then Apache then back to IIS and so on. Finally, just started using VMware. I will probably do a multi-boot again when I get a much better computer, not just for working but for being able to just do some tinkering and discovery. I may actually need your advise on what is the best hardware to buy for optimal Linux compatibility, but that is a bit down the road. I am saving up for a high performance system that won’t need to be replaced for a long time, and that will cost some extra dollars.
